The Fit Issues Part 3: Swimsuits Show Too Much Skin

The Fit Issues Part 3: Swimsuits Show Too Much Skin

Wanting to show less skin is way more common than you think. When we see models on magazine covers and influencers bearing it all on tropical beach vacations, it might feel like the only swimsuits that exist are tiny bikinis, but believe it or not women everywhere are choosing swimsuits that show less skin today more than ever.

With the rise of the tankini we saw last summer and modest styles coming to the runway, if you’re someone who's looking for more coverage options, we definitely have the swimsuit for you.

Our swim stylists are here to get you swimsuit ready for whatever trip, vacation, or pool day you’ve got coming up!

What kind of swimsuit are you looking for exactly?

“A traditional bikini shows more skin than I like from the waist up.”

Totally understandable! We see that women will swap their bikinis out for a mid length swim top like a crop top, or a tankini. These are some of the styles we love:

“I don't like how revealing a traditional bikini bottom can feel.”

Not a problem! There’s 3 solutions we have for this:

  • The first is a high waisted full coverage bikini bottom option.
  • The second, skipping the bikini bottoms altogether and opting for swim shorts instead.
  • The last, a swim skirt, the most modest alternative. A swim skirt or swim skort still allows you to move freely whether you’re walking the beach or swimming at the pool, but still stay covered.

These are some of our favorites:

“I recently had a baby - my body and comfort needs have changed. I am looking for something that has shapewear in it? Do you guys carry something like that?”

We completely relate, and yes, we do sell swimwear with shapewear built right in! Coco Contours and Shapemaker both blend the sculpting power of shapewear with the style and comfort of traditional swimwear.

We think you might love these styles:

“I need more sun protection than what a bikini offers.”

We get it! More coverage means less exposed skin and fewer places that you have to keep reapplying your sunscreen to. Our swim stylists think some great style options are swimsuits with long sleeves, or adding a rash guard to your look - both look chic and keep you covered all day in the sun.

These are some of the options we like:

“I need something with more versatility than just a bathing suit, I have limited space in my suitcase for travel!”

A swimsuit with more coverage is such a smart solution to limited suitcase space. These swimsuits can easily double as tops with shorts, skirts, or coverups which makes them perfect and easy for travel, resort days, or beach-to-lunch meals.

We love how these are styled:

"I’m too active for a skimpy swimsuit  - they never stay in place!"

We’ve got you covered here (pun definitely intended 😉)! We understand that not every swim day is about lounging and we’ve got the perfect suits for swimming laps, playing with the kids at the beach, or paddle boarding. We love these one pieces that are perfect for active days!

Our final thoughts?

At the end of the day, choosing a swimsuit that shows less skin isn’t about hiding, but ultimately is about feeling comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing, and making sure the suit you’re wearing works for your lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for a style that has extra coverage for sun protection, or support, there really are options designed with you in mind.
